On November 19, 2009, Council enacted amendments to the Licence Bylaw that implements the Hours of Liquor Service Policy for restaurants into bylaw regulation.
On October 8, 2009, Council approved a bylaw amendment establishing new regulations for Food Primary establishments. Under the new regulation, licensees may apply for a permanent amendment to their hours of liquor service, as outlined in this section.
New RegulationsHours of liquor servicesThe bylaw amendment establishes the following hours of liquor service in restaurants effective January 1, 2010:
1:00 a.m. closing time Sunday to Thursday
2:00 a.m. closing time Friday and Saturday
A half-hour tolerance period, after which drinks must be removed from tables, applies.
Restaurants that have existing closing times later than 1:00 a.m. on weekdays and 2:00 a.m. on weekends must adopt the new closing times by December 31, 2009, and are required to amend their liquor licence with the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB).

Government Announcements and NewsHST Implementation Agreement signed - The Province and the federal government signed an agreement on the implementation of the Harmonized Sales Tax in British Columba, which will come into effect on July 1, 2010. The Comprehensive Integrated Tax Coordination Agreement (CITCA) contains the terms and conditions under which B.C. will participate in the HST with the federal government.
Second Quarterly Report released - The global economic downturn continues to have a negative impact according to the Province's Second Quarterly report. Total revenue is projected to be $37.4 billion in 2009-2010, a decrease of $232 million compared to the September Budget Update. Total expense is projected to be $40 billion. B.C.'s projected deficit is unchanged from the September Budget Update and remains at $2.8 billion for 2009-2010.
Major construction project up - The value of major construction projects planned or underway across B.C. has risen to $189 billion, setting a record for the 20th time in a row.
